Namibia, one of Africa’s best-kept secrets, is more about spectacular desert scenery, a photographer’s dream, than a conventional African safari experience. From the burnt-out badlands and stony valleys of the Namib-Naukluft national park, and the sculptured rock formations of Damaraland, to the world-renowned red dunes of Sossusvlei, there is plenty for those with an adventurous spirit. Taking a helicopter flight or a hot-air balloon ride over the desert on a Namibia safari puts its sheer vastness in perspective.
The arid Kunene region with its desert-adapted elephants, rhinos, and lions, makes for an unrivaled safari experience, especially when combined with the cultural experience of interacting with the indigenous tribe, the Himba of Northern Namibia, that live with apparent contentment in what looks to most people like an inhospitable wasteland. The Skeleton Coast is a great place to see marine wildlife, including the Cape fur seal on your Namibia safari.
Namibia has a fully developed infrastructure with an excellent choice of accommodation and activities. It provides an ideal extension to a visit to South Africa and Botswana.
With Recherché Journeys, create your unique tailor-made Namibia safari and soar over the vast Sossusvlei Desert, interact with the Himba or unwind with Wellness Treatments.

Etosha National Park: Namibia’s most famous park for exceptional wildlife viewing during the dry season (May to Oct), 4 of the Big Five (no buffalo) are present, floodlit waterholes for night-time viewing, easy self-drive, several accommodation options for all budgets
Namib-Naukluft National Park: Namibia’s largest park famous for its stunning and enormous red dunes at Sossusvlei, low animal densities but quite a few species can be easily encountered. The best months to visit are May to Sep when it’s cooler during the day.
Skeleton Coast National Park: Often shrouded in fog, 310 miles of Atlantic coast gets its name from the numerous shipwrecks lying on the shore. Off-the-beaten wilderness destination is famous for Cape fur seal colonies. Also has excellent birding opportunities. Unlike Etosha, the best time to visit the Skeleton Coast is Oct to Mar, when the nights are warmer, and there is less fog.
Best Time to visit: June to October (All parks). The best months to go in are April and May when the temperatures are moderate, and there is little to no rainfall
High Season: July to October (Does not feel too crowded, except for Etosha and main road in Namib-Naukluft)
Low Season: December to April
