Guatemala

The word ‘Guatemala’ comes from the indigenous Nahuatl word “Quahtlemallan,” which means “land of many trees.” Beyond the lush green beautiful landscapes, the off-beat, unique country of Guatemala offers colonial charm, UNESCO world heritage sites, adventurous activities, rich indigenous Mayan culture, delicious street food, and friendly people. It is still a destination that feels untouched and provides authentic experiences.

Why travel

Tikal: A large Mayan city, hidden deep in the rainforests of northern Guatemala, was discovered in the mid-19th century. Historians believe the 3000 structures, including five stunning temples, are the remains of a Mayan city called Yax Mutal, the capital of one of the most powerful kingdoms of the ancient empire, dating back to 4th century B.C.

The City of Antigua: Nestled between three majestic volcanoes, the city of Antigua is a colonial wonder. Its cobbled streets and gorgeous Spanish architecture make it a highlight for most visitors.

Lake Atitlán: Stunningly beautiful Lake Atitlán is surrounded by mountains, volcanos and is dotted with small quaint Mayan villages where the residents fiercely guard their traditions and culture.

Chichicastenango: Every Thursday and Sunday, the locals from the villages throughout the countryside gather at Chichicastenango to sell fresh produce, ethnic clothing and jewelry, vibrantly colored textiles, and beautiful handicrafts, making it the largest market in Latin America. Perfect place to buy souvenirs to take back home.
