Day 1

Kigali

You are met at Kigali International Airport and brought to a meet-and-greet rendezvous to discuss the Rwandan leg of your itinerary. After a visit to the Kigali Genocide Memorial, you are transferred to Bisate Lodge, either by helicopter or luxury 4x4 road transfer. The area around Bisate welcomes you with dramatic views of the peaks of the volcanoes Bisoke, Karisimbi, and Mikeno rearing up through the Afro-alpine forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. Six sumptuous en- suite rooms maximize comfort, warmth, and views while retaining environmental principles and reflecting the culture of surrounding rural Rwanda.

Day 2-3

Volcanes National Park

Exploring Bisate and its surroundings include a golden monkey or gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park, outstanding birding, a community visit, planting your own tree to help reforest the area, and visits to the Iby’wacu cultural village, the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, and Diane Fossey’s grave.

Day 4

Laikipia Plateau - Kenya

Return to Kigali International Airport via helicopter or road transfer for onward travel to Nairobi. From here you either depart by scheduled flight to Nanyuki or direct charter to Segera. The road transfer between Nanyuki and Segera takes two hours in a closed vehicle. Segera Retreat lies on the grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau, its six timber and thatch villas raised above a profusion of botanical life looking out towards Mount Kenya. Each large, en-suite bedroom has a private sun deck with sun loungers and a swing bed, and a Jacuzzi bath, sunk into the deck outside the bedroom. The gracious Segera House and Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury.

Day 5-6

Laikipia Plateau - Kenya

In a safari experience reminiscent of ‘Out of Africa’, visitors to Segera enjoy a wide range of personalized activities in a wildlife-rich landscape diverse with savannah grasslands, waterfalls, rivers, and woodlands. Further afield, you are invited to engage with local communities, bustling markets, and various Segera-supported community projects.

Depart for home or extend your journey

Depart Segera via direct charter flight from the lodge; alternatively, take the road transfer to Nanuyuki and scheduled flight to Nairobi for your onward travel.

Bisate Lodge: Bisate Lodge, a Premier Camp, has dramatic views of the Bisoke and Karisimbi volcano peaks rising through the forests of nearby Volcanoes National Park. It is within easy driving distance of Park Headquarters, from where once-in-a-lifetime gorilla treks depart daily. Exploring around Bisate includes community visits, birding, golden monkey tracking, and helping reforest the area, Gorilla Guardian Village, the Twin Lakes of Ruhondo and Burera, as well as Dian Fossey’s burial site.

Six opulent en-suite Forest Villas are warmed by a central fireplace and have breathtaking views from the deck. The main area comprises a lounge, dining and bar area, wine cellar, and viewing deck. Both the architecture and interiors are rooted in Rwandan cultural traditions.

 

Segera Retreat: Overlooking snow-capped Mount Kenya, luxurious Segera Retreat is found on Laikipia’s savannah grasslands, home to the second-highest density of wildlife in Kenya. Game drives, guided nature walks, and cultural activities showcase the environment.

Beautifully renovated stables form the core of the main area, while six large luxurious villas rise on wooden platforms above a profusion of botanical life. The lavish new Farmhouse Homestead, Segera House, and perfectly-positioned Villa Segera boast even greater privacy and luxury. Throughout, the Retreat and its gardens are filled with selected paintings and other art from amongst Africa’s most inspiring artists from The Zeitz Collection. Other delights include a spa and gym, as well as the unique Nay Palad Bird’s Nest sleep-out. The sumptuous cuisine comprises Segera’s own free-range beef and organic vegetables.
